Peanut Bags – What Are They?
A peanut tote is a specialized bulk bag developed by the American Peanut Council (APC) for the safe transport of in-shell peanuts, red skins, blanched kernels and splits. The APC created this specification to establish uniform standards that improve safety, efficiency and consistency across the industry.
Breathable Fabric for Freshness
Every peanut tote must be constructed from breathable fabric that meets the APC minimum air permeability standard of 40 CFM. This is achieved through precise weaving that leaves small gaps between polypropylene tapes. Breathable fabric prevents mold growth and helps maintain product freshness from storage to shipment.
Specifications Required By APC
In 2001 the American Peanut Council’s Packaging and Handling Task Force established a uniform standard for peanut totes. These specifications were created to improve hygiene, reduce costs and ensure consistent product quality across the industry. Any company wishing to supply tote bags to the U.S. peanut sector must first have their products certified by the APC.
